Evelyn Marie Mwadi, Soprano
Hi, I’m Evelyn Marie Mwadi (she/her), a classically trained soprano with a passion for opera, musical theatre, pop and everything in between! I love exploring a wide range of repertoire and bringing music to life in ways that connect with audiences.
I earned my Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from the University of Alberta, and have pursued further training with a Performer Certificate from the Franz-Schubert-Institut and a Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Vocal Performance and Pedagogy from Concordia University of Edmonton. This spring, I will graduate with a Master of Music in Voice Performance from Western University’s Don Wright Faculty of Music.
Here in Alberta, I’ve had the pleasure of performing with NUOVA Vocal Arts, Pop Goes the Opera, and the Ensemble for Lyrical Operetta Productions Edmonton. Some of my favourite roles include Rosalinde in Die Fledermaus, Johanna in Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, Mrs. Nordstrom in A Little Night Music, and Suzanne in Un mari à la porte. I’ve also sung as the soprano soloist in annual productions of Handel’s Messiah, including with the Juno Award-winning ensemble Rosa Barocca and Stratford Concert Choir.
Alongside performing, I’m passionate about voice science and using that knowledge in my teaching. I’m an active member of the National Association for Teachers of Singing, the Alberta Registered Music Teachers Association, and The Voice Foundation, and I love working with students of all ages to help them grow as singers.
Outside of music, I’m an animal lover and share my home (and sometimes my studio!) with three rescue dogs and two kitties who keep life full of surprises and smiles.
I am currently accepting in-person and virtual students.
