Frequently Asked Questions
What does a typical lesson look like?
Lessons are always customized depending on the student’s age, ability, and objectives. All lessons will begin with tailored technical warm-ups, followed by repertoire exploration. My First Music Lesson will include the addition of games, activities, and sing-alongs.
How can I pay for my lessons?
Payments are accepted by cheque or e-transfer with tuition for regular weekly lessons being due on the 1st of each month. Drop-in lessons and lesson packages must be paid in full before the first lesson. Please note that late payments incur a $20 weekly fee, and lessons will be paused until the outstanding balance is cleared.
Do you offer trial lessons?
For students wanting to try lessons out without a regular weekly commitment, I offer drop-in lessons and short-term lesson packages. Please see my rates for more information.
What styles of music do you teach?
While my background is primarily in classical music and musical theatre, I’m a big believer in singing the music that you love! A well-coordinated voice can move between styles with ease and my job as your teacher is to give you the tools to sing what you want in a sustainable and stylistically appropriate way long-term.
Do you teach piano lessons?
I don’t offer dedicated piano lessons, however, for families looking for a broader introduction to music, I offer My First Music Lesson. This program includes an introduction to foundational musical skills through piano, singing, non-pitched percussion instruments, and games. These lessons are best suited for younger students without any previous music knowledge.
Do you prepare students for exams?
Yes! For regular weekly students interested in achieving a graded certification, I offer preparation for Royal Conservatory of Music and Conservatory Canada examinations, including repertoire, technical work, and ear training.
If you’re interested in preparing for a vocal exam, please let me know when registering so we can create a plan for the academic year to ensure you feel confident and well prepared when exam time arrives.
Do you offer performance opportunities?
Regular weekly students who enjoy performing are encouraged to participate in the Edmonton Music & Speech Arts Festival, held annually in the spring. Beyond that, students are always welcome to seek out opportunities to share their voice, and I’m happy to organize studio recitals whenever there’s enough interest. If you’re excited to perform, please let me know and we’ll make it happen!
